Large water-filled grooves are left in the bare soil by heavy farming machinery and tinted orange by chemical sprays. When conducting research on these farms this summer, I thought these grooves appeared especially desolate but was surprised to find frogs living in almost every one. I wanted this photo to spotlight animals that exist in highly human-altered landscapes, often in the least-expected places.
