Botanie Valley, near Lytton, is a hotspot for hybridization between white-crowned sparrow subspecies. While the valley where most sparrows nest is hidden in the shade, the early morning light is highlighting the zigzagging forest road we took to reach the few individuals breeding at the top of the mountain. This photo is a reminder of one of my favourite days out in the field.
