The Glow of an Acoel

Regine Claire Manglicmot

Award winner

A fluorescence image of our distant and microscopic bilaterian cousins, the acoel. Nuclei glow orange nestled in grids of muscles. Juvenile forms of acoels are often discarded for lacking in features, but given appropriate dyes, even these simple juveniles boast beautiful biological intricacy.
