I captured this moment 7 m deep during a SCUBA dive survey of subtidal habitat in Desolation Sound, BC, led by Postdoctoral fellow Calla Raymond. Here, a mottled star (Evasterias troschelii) shelters in an eelgrass (Zostera marina) meadow. The research investigates how these valuable nursery habitats are impacted by recreational boating activity, and benefits of anchor exclusion zones to ecosystem health.
