The Oyster Nebula

Mucus is highlighted in orange and covers the oyster, with larger strings and globs decorating the mantle, sensory tentacles, and gills. They are full of tiny pinpricks of light; a nebula of bacteria making themselves at home in the oyster's microenvironment. Captured using fluorescent confocal microscopy, pseudocolored and composited using ImageJ.
