A male hooded merganser was enjoying a peaceful nap on the pond at VanDusen Botanical Garden until he spotted the curious birder observing him from the path. His beautiful golden eye is so striking against the autumn leaves floating on the water's surface. This photo was shot using an iPhone 14 through the lens of my binoculars, creating the blurred effect.
