La Luz de Tus Ojos

Watercolour on paper

Gabriela Barragan

Singing and wagging his spatula tail, while waiting for a female to arrive. A story that has repeated itself for hundreds of years in the region of the Utcubamba River.

Such is the case of the endemic “marvelous spatuletail” (Lodiggesia mirabilis), that is portrayed in watercolor [ref. photo: @murraycooperphoto]. Their habitat is disappearing due to deforestation. This species is in danger of extinction according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Like this wonderful hummingbird, thousands of species are in danger, some extinct, due to many threats such as habitat loss and climate change. Conservation and restoration initiatives can help protect and restore the habitats of these species. For this reason, it is necessary to support those types of initiatives.
