Journey Through the Crabapple

Sunny Zhang

The Varied Thrush is native to the Pacific Northwest. It is a very active bird and usually quite shy, which is why it's difficult to see and get pictures of one up-close. When it is feeding, it can be easier to see it much closer. Varied Thrushes feed mainly on fruits in fall and winter and crabapple fruits are one of their favorite fruits. I was lucky enough to see several Varied Thrushes gathering in a crabapple tree and picking the fruits.
