Impacts of forestry on the environment

Teresa Silverthorn, a Masters student in Forestry at UBC, describes her research in forestry practices and its impacts on the environment.

My name is Teresa Silverthorn, and I am a master's student in John Richardson's lab in forestry at UBC. My research looks at how forestry practices impact the greenhouse gas fluxes from soils alongside small streams.

My favourite research memory is probably last summer when I got the opportunity to visit our research partners in Sweden and Finland and got to check out their awesome streams.

I think my favourite organism is probably the caddisfly. Which is an aquatic invertebrate that often spends its larval stage in streams and they're pretty cool because they build these little protective cases out of things like twigs and gravel.
