Panthera pardus, Queen of the Savanna
Marie Toorians
Category: Vertebrates
Wild white sturgeon were captured as part of a UBC study to look at how temperature stress affects their well-being. Non-lethal samples of blood, mucous, and gill tissue were taken as health checks. Length, girth (seen here), and tag number were recorded as part of a long-term monitoring program run by the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society. All sturgeon, including this particularly well-fed river monster, swam away happily after their check-ups.
