Magical Moment in the Field
The river otters' stare really warmed my heart on a cold December day, which is why I took this picture. When we think of urban areas, things that often come to mind are buildings, cars, and of course, humans. Wildlife can also be found in urban environments and river otters are one of several wildlife species that call Jericho Park home. The pond in Jericho Park is very close to the ocean and is mostly clean and surrounded by abundant vegetation. Fishes and bullfrogs also live in the pond and are hunted by the river otters. It's important to bring "wilderness" back into the city and I believe that parks are a great way of making this happen.
